The asteroid field was an extensive, wildly erratic asteroid belt occupying the farthest orbit of the Hoth system in the Outer Rim Territories. The belt was a favored sanctuary for smugglers and pirates alike hoping to elude legal authority. Though it was rich in untapped mineral resources such as metal ore, a magnet for mining prospectors hoping to make a fortune.
Thus, because so many dormant or exhausted deep space quarries existed, monitoring them all was impossible. Therefore the Asteroid Hangar was an ideal location for groups wishing to keep their presence hidden from unfriendly eyes. Furthermore, thick layers of rock were able to mask electromagnetic emissions from passing Probe droids or Scout Craft, and machinery that could not be hidden was easily disguised as disused mine equipment.
It was one such mining prospect that had made a suitable future base for the Zann Consortium. Out of the way and hard to get to, they had forged ahead and with the help of Byblos Drive Yards they secretly went ahead with their plans.
Byblos conversion took the abandoned mine and transformed it into a fully working space station. A pressurized hangar, sealed from the vacuum by a forcefield, which permitted small spacecraft such as Utility Tugs or Corellian transports to dock.
The interior of the asteroid base consisted of a number of research stations and a hangar bay which was large enough to house four Starfighter squadrons, some Lambda shuttles and a CR90 corvette. On the outside layer it consisted of 12 laser batteries and an Anti-warhead launcher. It also had 8 asteroid static defenses, 4 of which were Asteroid Laser Batteries and the other 4 were Asteroid Warhead Launchers.
