Three ships dropped out of Hyperspace beyond the gravity shadow of the world of G'rho. years ago it had been a human colony, now it belonged to the saurian Sss-Ruuk race. It remained one of their outposts, and the few known to the galaxy at large. The three ships were not Ssi-Ruuvi, though, they were of definite human design. two were the thin triangular hulls of the old venator class Star Destroyers, relics of the Clone Wars but still very lethal. the other way a much older design, one not seen since the old Sith War. The split prow of the Interdictor-Class cruiser hung in space the skull of a giant predatory bird. once feared throughout the known universe, it had been eclipsed by much more modern designs. that didn't mean it wasn't still very effective for what was about to happen.
The three ships moved forward, fanning out in to battle formation. the front of each Venator slowly split, opening the internal hangar bays. The space around them was suddenly alive with fighter and bombers, squadron after squadron pouring out from each ship like insects from a hive.
3 squadrons each of Republic vintage Eta-2's and another three of the much newer E-wings fanned out in front of the capital ship, screening another 6 squadrons of bombers behind them. The bombers, heavy Hyena class droid fighters, were like the Interdictor... a class thought extinct unless you knew to look.
The ships slowed once the formation was set, the Venators closing their hangar doors, and the fleet settled in to wait. They knew what was coming, local pirates knew a fresh load of supplies was inbound to the planet, but that the convoy was too well guarded for them to attack. That was not a problem for this fleet, though there was no markings on any of the hell, the deep red and black paint jobs on each ship was a black enough indication of who these belonged to.
The Interdictor powered up it's gravity well projectors, the invisible nets extending out in to space right along the most obvious travel route. before long, the trap was sprung, the Ss-ruuvi fleet was suddenly sucked out of Hyperspace. a Sh'Ner class Carrier and several smaller Wurrif-class vessels.
The Hyena's pounced immediately, their droid brains registering the target and beginning their pre-programmed attack runs. The other fighters held back, but only for a moment, the Eta-2's surging forward after the bombers, the E-wings moving up high over the enemy ships to attack targets of opportunity.
The Ssi-Ruuvi were caught completely off-guard, not expecting to encounter a fleet this size out in Wild Space. Their gunners opened fire, but the fighters were already in to close for it to be effective. The Hyena's flashed in low and fast across the hull of the carrier, firing their lasers and spraying proton torpedos against it's shielding and weapons emplacements. spreading the damage across the hull instead of trying to kill the craft.
The Eta-2's came next, following the bombers in in a paradoxical way. the remaining gunners still concentrated on the heavier craft, the one's doing more damage. The reason for attack method was simple.. the Eta's each carried a pair of Ion cannon. 3 squandrons with, 36 fighters, spraying ion bolts over the hull of the carrier once the shields collapsed. The Carrier didn't last long before the engines flared out and the running lights dimmed.
The fighters broke off, scattering in all directions to evade the fighter from the light cruisers. buzzing around wildly as a distraction. the cruisers had slowed dramatically, trying to protect the crippled carrier... which was exactly what the Venators expected. The E-wings joined the attack now, diving in on the cruisers, targetting weapons emplacement and harassing them as best they could as the two Star Destroyers moved in to firing range.
The Venators opened fire at long range, their heavy cannons reaching out through the void towards the smaller escort vessel, targeting the two out in front and quickly ripping through the shields of the smaller ships and hammering away at the armor. The Ssi-Ruuvi knew the battle was over, and started to reverse, turning their guns on the rapidly closing large Destroyers, which was their last fatal mistake.
The Hyenas had disengaged when the Destroyers opened fire, regrouping behind the Ssi-Ruuvi formation. they came around again on the 2 unengaged cruisers, swarming over them with their remaining missiles and bombs. The battle ended quickly as the Venators moved in to close range, the Wurrifs pounded with laser fire until they started to break apart. All the raiders cared about was the carrier... as for the rest they made sure they left no survivors.
Once the fighting was done the flight decks of the venators split open once again, one releasing a flight of recovery craft to collect damaged starfighters and ejected pilots. the other one spat out a dozen LAAT assault shuttled, modified for space travel.
The ships silently crossed the gap to the crippled carrier, half a dozen Hyena's buzzing across their path and blasting an entry hole through the hull. One by one the shuttled landed, disgorging loads of heavily armed troopers, outfits for zero-g fighting. Like with the cruisers, the troopers inside killed every sentient entity the came across, scouring the inside of the carrier until they found what they were after... the entechment laps inside. They quickly stripped them of anything that was still working, bundling it all back to the shuttles, which ferried the pieces back to the main ships.
Once the recovery operation was finished and everything recovered, the Venators turned their guns on the hull of the carrier, blasting in to it again and again, obliterating all trace of the left with laser fire.
Then the fleet pulled back, reforming away from the wreckage and vanishing back in to hyperspace just as abruptly as it had arrived, leaving the ruins of the Ssi-Ruuvi convoy to drift between the stars.
