Leaving Naboo, Darth Lonefire leads Jes to his next destination: Malastare. Watching the young Jedi closely, Darth Lonefire searches her feelings to see if he is indeed close to turning her. Jes, on the other hand, gazing out the ship’s window still is able to channel her light powers and the Force bond with Augustus, blocking any mind reading attempts by him.
Behind the Force wall, however, Jes is unsure what she wants to do. Memories of happy times filled her mind, then the meories at Naboo came in and Lonefire’s words start clouding her vision. “What are you thinking M’lady?” Lonefire said to her. Jes turns around and looks at him. “Nothing Lonefire, just wondering where you are taking me.” He smirks and places his hand over hers. “Some place that will help your transformation. Some place where it can help you realize your full potential.”
Jes looks at him with a confused look and Lonefire gently moves his hand from her hand to brush a piece of hair from her face. “You have nothing to worry about Jes. You trust me, right?” I will never make you do something or force you into something.” “Of course I trust you Lonefire.” Jes replied, but behind that Force wall, there was doubt. She felt, however, that everyone got their letters and are either looking for her or completely upset she left. For once in all her time as a Jedi, Jes truly felt alone.
“We are here M’lady.” Jes turns around and sees Lonefire standing with his hand to her. Rubbing her head, Jes smiles and takes his hand. “I guess I must have dosed off,” she lied. He leads her out of the ship into the eerie jungle. It was dark, hardly any light coming through the crowds of huge trees. Jes wanted to stop and look at the scene, but felt the tug from his hand and continued on. As if he could sense Jes’s apprehension, Lonefire held his grip on her hand as they went through the jungle.
A couple of times, Jes stumbled over a branch or in the mud, but Lonefire never let her hand go. What seemed like hours, Lonefire stops at a cave, a huge one with vines growing all over it. Sensing that the cave was the one, Jes moves a little from Lonefire to get a better look. Lonefire watches Jes and pulls her closer to him. “This is it Jes. The cave where you will go and find your true self.” He turns her head and looks into her eyes. ‘Are you ready to go in and find your true calling?”
Thinking of how she ended up here, Jes nods her head and said nothing. Smiling, Lonefire leads her closer to the entrance and lets her go. “If you are, then go ahead. I cannot join you because it is for you but as soon as you come out I will be waiting for you.” He walks up to Jes and kisses her gently on the lips and smiles. Not saying anything, Jes turns around, takes a deep breath and walks in. When she is out of sight, Lonefire wickly grins and says to himself, “Yes I finally got her.” He turns and walks back to his ship, sensing Jes would not be coming out soon. Jes, walking into the cave thinks to herself. “What have I done? I’m so sorry Augustus.”
Jes’s first impression of the cave was that it was very cold and smelled wet through the walls. “Must be a river or something around here.” She tells herself. As she continues to walk, the path becomes softer and the walls start looking like rocks. Jes leans on the wall to feel it and was surprised. “There’s no vines on the rocks or broken pieces. This cave is starting to look as if it was just created…”
All of a sudden, Jes starts to remember something. “The soft ground, fresh rock walls…exactly how my dream was.” She continues walking, more confident than before until she reaches a fork in the cave. One direction is narrow, but brighter. The other passage is wider with the soft ground, but darker. “I don’t remember this in my dream.” Jes says to herself. Then, as if a button was pushed in her mind, Jes recalls something Katra told her when learning to be a healer.
“Clear your mind of all thoughts and concentrate. Let the Force guide you.”
Jes takes off her sweater and sits down on the ground. “It helped me as a healer, I hope it will help me now.” She said to herself as she closes her eyes. Through the Force, Jes is standing up, facing the two entrances. Looking at the more lit direction, Jes sees a river next to her. Then as soon as something, like a leaf falls in the river, a big water monster jumps out showing its sharp teeth.
Then the image changes to the other direction. The soft ground continued on until it stopped in front of a pond surrounded by five candles. On either side of the pond, two statues holding sabers stood guard. The statues looked familiar but she couldn’t make them out. Then she opened her eyes. “Thanks Katra” Jes said while getting up and goes to the left side. It was exactly the way she saw it in her vision, but the walk was longer.
“Maybe I saw wrong” she started thinking to herself until Jes saw something flickering up ahead. “Could that be…” she kept walking until she got to the end. She stands under an archway and looks in. There, exactly in her dream and vision, was the pond in the middle. The five candles, in different colors, were in their spots as well as the two statues against the wall. Jes slowly makes her way towards the statues, still thinking why they look so familiar.
Then, one of the statues all of a sudden came at her. “What the…” Jes said and reached for her saber. “Where’s my saber?” she keeps patting around her pants until the statue knocks her down with its stoned hand. “I’m in trouble now” as Jes falls to the ground and looks up as the statue lifts up the saber and was about to strike her when another saber blocked the hit. Not knowing that she closed her eyes, Jes opened her eyes and looked up at who was holding the other saber. “Clintro?” she smiles, realizing why she recognized the statue. “This is an intruder. She must die.” The statue said. “Only a direct bloodline of the original heroes of the war can enter here.” “She is from the direct line Zeke.” Clintro said while helping Jes up. “Yes, I am a direct descendent. My brother fought in the war.” “Who is your brother?” “My brother’s name is Obi Wan Kenobi and I am is sister, JesMar Kenobi.”
As if she said she was a queen, Zeke puts down his saber and bows down to her. “Excuse me for my actions my lady. It was necessary to protect this place.” Jes looks at Clintro then back to Zeke. “I understand. My brother wrote great things about this place. I hope it can do the same for me.” Rising up, Zeke started walking towards his place in the wall and turns to Jes. “My lady, the pond shows different things for different people. Truly your heart is pure so you will see what you need. Fare thee well Lady Jes.” Jes looks around and sees the pond glittering around the candles.
“Are you ready babe?” She turns and smiles at Clintro. “You’re outfit. I like it.” She says and sighs. “I am afraid.” Putting his stone hand on her shoulder, Clintro looks at her. “You are the bravest girl I know Jes. It’s okay to be afraid. Be the girl that I know you can be. The girl I fell in love with.” Those words Clintro said to her gave Jes strength to face the pond. Thinking he was human, Jes hugs him. “Alright, I’m ready” she said and starts walking towards the pond.
“Wait Jes!” Clintro yells, walking towards her. “See those candles? Each candle represents an element, earth, fire, wind, water, and spirit. If the guardian of the pond decides to give you an elemental power, the other four flames will go out. Know this though. Not everyone gets one.” Jes nods and continues walking towards the pond. She gets to the edge of the pond and looks down. Jes closes her eyes, waiting for that hand in her dream to grab her when a voice started talking. “Do not be afraid child. You are safe in this place. Please kneel on the edge.”
She does what the voice told her and kneels down. “I knew this day would come JesMar. I told your brother the last time he was here and I am glad he remained faithful to my wisdom. Dear child, I sense much confusion from you and I am here to help you.” By magic, the 5 candles started flickering and a gust of wind came in around the water. “I know what has been troubling you and it is not Nick. It is your mother.”
Hearing this, Jes starts feeling something, but holds it back. “My mother? She’s dead now. So everything that I have been through and felt is because of her?” Jes’s eyes start tearing up and shake her head. The voice continues. “JesMar, yes you did break your mother’s heart, but that did not kill her. Take a look at this.”
Jes leans over and watches the pool turn from the clear, blue water into dusty Tatoonie.
There was a house in the distance and noise could be heard, but she couldn’t make it out. Then the door opens and a girl, about 19, runs out with her bag. “That’s me, when I left.” Jes said to herself. The image changes to inside the house where a woman, about 40, is sitting at the table crying. (My mother). Then, the door opens and a man, about the same age with a beard, comes in. “I saw Jes leaving. She found out about ObiWan huh?” (Lauder, our neighbor since I could remember) With her sobs, she tells him the story. Lauder hugs her and asked her, “Elpida, you didn’t tell her about…” “No, I couldn’t Lauder. I promised my brother I would never tell Jes the truth.” Lauder looks at her with sad eyes. “Don’t you think Remus would do the same? Letting his goddaughter run out without knowing her TRUE life?”
(What does he mean? Jes says to herself) Elpida looks up and sighs. “Anyway, it’s too late. Jes has already left for the Temple. Maybe… no I won’t. Can’t do it.” Lauder was holding a holoviewer in front of Elpida. “You have to. Jes has to know the truth, just in case she is found. And…I’m right here with you.” Holding her hand. Elpida sighed, knowing he was right, takes the holoviewer and pressed the record button.
“Wait! I didn’t see what it was. I never got the holo!” Jes screamed to the pond. But as it knew, the image turned into the cave, showing the back of the wall, by where Zeke was. A part of the wall was loose and behind it was the holoviewer. “What the..?” Jes said while getting up and walking towards the spot. Exactly what the image showed, a rock was loose and once she moved it, there it was. “The holo” Jes said, shaking as she reached to get it. Returning to the rock to sit down, she wonders what the big secret her mother promised not to tell. “Well, here goes nothing.” She said, shaking more as she reaches to push the play button.
Elpida sighs. “My darling JesMar. I never wanted things to end like this and I’m sorry. I wish I could tell you in person but, like my brother, you inherit his stubbornness.” She starts to cry a little and Lauder is seen hugging her. She then continues. “Remus and I are not your parents, but your godparents. Your real parents are Isabella and Merrick. Isabella was a smuggler and Merrick was a pirate who also had another gift, he was Force Sensitive. Instead of being tied down to rules and stuff, he became a rouge pirate, traveling around the galaxy finding jobs along the way. Of course they both made enemies along the way and neither stayed in one place longer than a day until they met each other. Isabella needed to find someone to help her smuggle some stolen goods to Corellia and ran into Merrick here in Tatoonie. They immediately fell in love and married in Dantoonie during the job. Two years later Bella, her nickname, was pregnant with you. Knowing that any child of theirs would also be Force Sensitive, Merrick vowed never to let the Jedi take them away from him, so they continued traveling, stopping only on planets that the Republic didn’t have any control over. It wasn’t until an attempted hit on Bella and an attempted kidnapping of you did Merrick realized it was not a save place to raise a child. With the increase dangers of other pirates, bounties and the new resistance, he had to do something. One night, they came over with you in his arms. Bella, upset for having to leave her girl, stayed outside to keep watch. Merrick told Remus and I never to tell you so you can have a normal childhood. Also, we had to change your name for fear people might make a connection and try to kidnap you. That was the last time we saw Merrick and Bella. Last we heard, they were heading beyond the Outer Rim, possibly to find a save planet to lay low for a while. Jes, your real name is Lorana, Lorana Collet. Obi Wan is not your brother, just your cousin. Lor-..Jes, we love you as if you were truly our daughter. Remus, especially loved you. He died to keep you safe, and I will be willing to do the same. I am so, so sorry Jes for not telling you sooner, but you must understand why. I will always love you and will be my little girl.” Elipda leans on Lauder and starts to sob as the holo ends.
For what seemed like time froze, Jes sat there shocked at what she was told. Finally, she starts to wake up. “My dad was a pirate and my mom a smuggler? Some combination. Obi Wan’s not my brother, my da-Remus died to save me.” She tries to get up but unable to hold herself up and falls down. “My parents could be anywhere in the galaxy. How can I find them, or even, where can I find their graves.”
Jes puts her head down in her hands and closes her eyes. “That is why my moth- I mean my aunt did what she did to me. It wasn’t because she was being mean. It was to protect me. That’s what my dad wanted her to do, just to keep me safe.” Tears start forming in her eyes. “And I was so mean to her that day, the day I left.” Jes starts to cry, remembering that awful day. “I wish I could go back and apologize to her. Now I understand why I give my heart and soul into things. I have my parents’ personalities, their passion and love for each other and for me.”
All of a sudden, a burst of wind comes and surrounds Jes. She stands up, scared and not knowing what to do until the voice starts again. “You have proven that you are ready to accept your destiny. You have shown great strength and truly understand the circumstances of your life. Now, ready yourself to receive a gift from the Force.” Jes turns and looks at the five candles, which start to flicker one by one, until the last one, a purple one was left.
“Lorana Collet, daughter of Merrick and Isabella Collet, accept this gift to help you fulfill your destiny. Call upon your power to help you in your choices, to understand reasons, and especially to strengthen bonds you have formed. I have given you the power of the spirit. You have shown your passion, love and honesty toward what you hold dear to you. Use it wisely, Lorana, and bring back order into the galaxy.” Then, everything got quiet and the lights got brighter.
Jes stood by the lake, holding the holoviewer in her hand. “What just happened? Did everything…” Jes said to herself looking around. Then, she felt Augustus but not like before. It was the feeling that he was right in front of her. “Jes hon, where are you?” Shocked, she said, “Oh my gosh! It’s true! I have that power now. Augustus, I’m inside the cave. I’m fine and I’m heading out.”
Then, Jes had a vision, but it was through his eyes. She saw her friends waiting and there against a tree was Lonefire smirking. “Wow I’m gonna have to tell Gus about this and practice this new power.” Jes said, starting to head to the exit. Before she leaves, Jes turns back and looks at the two statues. “Thanks Clintro for being here for me.” She said smiling, then heads out through the dark tunnel.
The trip through the tunnel was not bad, or dark anymore. Patting the pocket where the holoviewer is in, Jes wonders what she’s gonna tell the others first: her real parents, her real name, or her new powers. Then she started thinking outloud. “Gus’s father was killed by pirates. What if we find out that my father was part of that.” She shakes her head. “I’ll just wait and see what happens.” Suddenly she hears voices coming from outside. Jes stops for a minute and thinks. This is the beginning of her new life and unsure what it could mean for everyone, including Gus. Then, taking a deep breath, Jes walks through and finally makes it outside.
“JES! JES!” The group that was waiting for her, repeated, “I was so worried about you!” The group consisted of HiVolt, G, Benny, Jade and Jaina. Jes, being surrounded by hugs, tried to look for the one person she really wanted to see, but he wasn’t there. G was the first to notice her expression. “I missed you a lot, you know.” HiVolt came over and before saying anything; he gives Jes the biggest and tightest hug. “Don’t you ever run off again Jes. I was worried sick about you. I thought HE did something horrible to you.” Jade, Jaina and Ben nodded in agreement with HiVolt’s concern.
“Me too Jes” Jes, able to move from his hug, turns and sees Clintro smiling at her. “You know, two cases of Dew would have done the trick.” Jes goes up to him and smiles. ‘Well you know me Clintro.” She hugs him and gives him a peak on the cheek.
“I see you came out as a new person M’lady. Ready for your official training?” She turns to see Lonefire standing by them smiling. Clintro gets in front of her, along with HiVolt and Ben. “You’re not getting anywhere near her, Lonefire.” Ben finally said, “She wanted answers and I merely showed her where to find them instead of holding her back and hiding her away. Remember, it’s up to Jes” Lonefire said. Jade moved behind Jes and asked, “Jes, you’re not still considering turning dark?” Jes moves back from Clintro and stands to a side from everyone.
Everyone turns and watches her, either with a worried expression or feeling of content. “Please spirit, help me. I am torn between two paths. The path I want and the path that I think I should go to because of my past.” She says to herself, closing her eyes. “Jes, we all need you. I need you.” She hears G say. “Remember I have the power to help you. “ Lonefire replies.
“Jes…” She opens her eyes and looks around. “Where are you?” She says through the Force. “Please Jes, I love you more than life itself. I don’t know what I would do if you turned. Please hun, don’t do it!” “Gus..” Jes said outloud and tries to sense him through their bond.
Lonefire sense he might lose Jes so he lunges towards Jes and grabs her. “I thought this visit to the cave would have made you my prize but something must have happened. If I can’t have you, no one will.” Lonefire said, holding his saber by her neck. Then he turns the saber towards the others. Clintro and HiVolt already closer than the others stops in front of him. “Anyone moves and I won’t be afraid to kill her.” Lonefire tells them, dragging Jes back into the woods.
Jes, trying to wiggle herself out, uses her new power to reach Gus. “I can’t believe I actually listened to you.” Telling Lonefire. “Yes my dear you were easy to deceive with being torn about where you belong. I should have grabbed you sooner, before the bond was formed, but we can work on that later.” Lonefire replied back.
“Jes, when I say ‘go’ with all your might drop to the ground.” “What? I don’t think I can do that.” “Trust me, you can.” She tries to look around, but Lonefire had such a tight grip on her, Jes couldn’t move. “I trust you and remember, Jedi first, no matter what.” She tells him, with sadness in her thought. She looks over at the group, hoping to see some expression that he was there, but it was still the same worried scared expression.
“Now Jes!” With quickness, everything happened. As soon as Jes heard the voice, she stomped hard on Lonefire’s foot and pushed herself down to the ground. Clintro and HiVolt ran forward to grab him, and two shots were heard. Jes turns and sees G shooting, but couldn’t see who had the other blaster. Lonefire pushed them away and ignited his saber, first pointing to Jes then lunges towards Clintro. “No Clintro!” Jes yells and quickly runs up to him. She grabs Lonefire’s hand, but he was too strong. He pushes Jes away and with his saber, cuts her arm. Jes falls back to the ground, holding her arm and in a lot of pain.
“Oh god! No Jes!” G yells as he runs to help Jes as Jaina and Jade go and help Ben and HiVolt. The five of them stand blocking Lonefire while G was helping Jes with her arm. “You’ll have to go through us before you can hurt Jes again.” HiVolt said. “You will try.” Lonefire smirked and went charging at all of them. He took out HiVolt first, then Ben went down but Clintro held his own.
“You are willing to die for a girl that you don’t even love? I will surrender, I will spare everyone.” Lonefire said. Without hesitating, Clintro replied, “I will always love Jes no matter what. I will be honored to lay down my life for her.” Lonefire grins, “Then I shall see if that’s true.” He sends out a powerful Force Push that sent Clintro flying into a tree. Jes, still in pain, tries to get up but is held back by Jade and G. “Let me go guys. He needs help.” Jade shakes her head. “Nope you can’t go. You’re hurt Jes.” Jes starts to cry and looks at G for support, but he shakes his head. She turns back, watching Lonefire walking towards an injured Clintro. “What have I’ve done?” she says to herself.
A blast comes and hits Lonefire in the arm, dropping his saber. Everyone turns around to look. There, standing in his pilot suit with a blaster in his hand, was Augustus. “Nice entrance hot shot!” Jaina said. “Show Off!” Ben and G said at the same time. Gus winks at Jes then turns back to Lonefire, who is trying to regain his control of the situation.
“This is it Lonefire. I am going to end this once and for all.” He said, putting his blaster away and taking out his saber. Lonefire calls his saber back and smirks. “We’ll just see about that Blue Boy.” Then they both lunge at each other, sabers clashing together. Through the bond, Jes tells Gus. “Please be careful and no matter what, a Jedi first.” They continue fighting and moving away from everyone else until they disappear into the jungle.
Jes gets up and when Jade starts to hesitate, she smiles. “I’m checking on Clintro. I’m a healer, remember?” “Okay, let’s go.” Jade replies and they both head to Clintro, who is still lying on the ground.
“I’m okay Jes. Really..ouch! I am.” Clintro says as Jes and Jade got closer. “Clintro, don’t you remember you can’t argue with me and expect to win.” Jes said as she, with Jade’s help, sits by him. “Now don’t be a baby and let me check you.” Clintro rolls his eyes. “Fine.” “Jes, I’m going to see if Jaina needs help.” Jade said while walking away. While Jes was checking Clintro’s ribs, she smiles at him. “Thanks for coming Clintro.” He smiles back at her. “You’re welcome but you don’t have to thank me. I was worried about you.”
Jes turns back to her work then finally looks back at him. “Clintro, what you said to Lonefire. Did you really mean that?” Clintro gets Jes’s hand and looks at her. “Even though things ended the way they did, I still love you Jes. You were the one I was planning on spending my life with. I meant what I said because no matter what, you are always in my heart.” Jes squeezes his hand and looks back at him. “Clintro, I feel the same way about you. I will always love you and you are a part of me.” She then leans over and gives him a kiss on the forehead. Clintro smiles and pats her cheek. “You always know how to get into trouble huh?” Jes laughs. “Yeah just like you’re an accident prone kind a guy.”
They start laughing until they hear Jaina’s voice. “Someone’s coming guys.” Everyone tense up, lightsabers out and ready. Clintro grabs Jes and pulls out his saber. The trees kept rustling and everyone held their breaths. G did the same thing and grabbed Jaina, pulling her back. Clintro kept his grip around Jes's waist and she closed her eyes trying to feel Gus. Tears start coming down when she can't feel him. "Please be all right." She said in her mind.
"Good morning beautiful." Jes opens her eyes to the familiar voice and kneeling next to her was Gus, with his famous smile. She jumps over and hugs him tightly almost causing Gus to fall back. "Oh gosh Gus I thought I had lost you. I couldn't feel you." He laughs and replied, "No matter what Jes. Remember you said that." Jes pulls away and hits him on the arm. Clintro starts laughing. "You better be careful with Jes's hitting problem, Augustus. I still have bruises."
Jes turns and smiles at him. "You want another one Clintro?" she starts to laugh and Gus gets her, pulling her towards him. "Well, at least you weren't threatened by a vibroaxe Clintro." Gus said, laughing. "So what happened to Lonefire?" Ben said as the others walked towards them. "Lonefire's unconscious but alive. I put him in the holding room aboard the WaveRider." "Good job my friend. I've taught you well." HiVolt said, patting Gus's shoulder. "Maybe I was wrong about the whole relationship thing. You can do both." He said, smiling at Gus and Jes.
"Alright I have plans so let's go." G finally said and everyone, except for Jaina of course, rolled their eyes. Gus picked up Jes and then helped Clintro up and all of them started walking to the ships.
Jes stops midway and Gus turns around, looking concerned. "What is it hon? What's wrong?" Clintro and Jade turn around too. "Gus, I need to talk to you alone." Jes said. "Go on guys. We'll catch up with you in a bit." Gus said, walking back towards Jes. Jade grabs Clintro's hand and pulls him along. Gus, taking Jes's hand and leads her to a rock. He sits down first then gently pulls her onto his lap. "Okay, what is it Jes?"
Jes sighs and looks at Gus. "When I was in the cave, I found out something. Something that really shocked me." She tries to get up but Gus holds her tightly. "Jes I love you. No matter what, you can tell me anything." Gus gently kisses her and sends her comfort through their bond. "Gus, I found out that...that the family I knew wasn't my family." He holds her hand and she continues. "My name isn't JesMar Kenobi, sister of ObiWan Kenobi. It's Lorana Collet, daughter of a smuggler mother and a pirate father."
Jes puts her face in her hands and starts to cry. Gus pulls her close to him and hugs her tight, letting her cry. He tries to grasp what Jes is saying but being the understanding guy that he is, Gus accepts it and hugs her close. "I could never hate you. What others have done is not a reflection of you. You decide who you are. And that's the girl I fell in love with. Biological parents don't really matter, it's the ones that you love and trust that do."
Jes looks up into Gus’s eyes and feels that he really means it. His words make sense to her and telling Gus the truth was the right thing to do. She hugs him back and starts to cry again. “I believe you Gus. Just that I was worried, actually scared to tell you my father’s a pirate and my real name is Lorana and my mother’s a smuggler and that is the reason for all my questioning and….” She starts to laugh because she is rambling on. A Jes thing, especially when she is upset.
Jes looks back at him and gives him a quick smile. “So… it’s gonna take a while for me to get used to saying my name is really Lorana.” Gus nods and kisses her on the forehead. “Yes it is dear. Especially for me since I know you as Jes.” He smiles and whispers in her ear. “Lorana” Hearing it, Gus realizes he likes the name and continues to hold her close to him. Jes closes her eyes and breathes a sigh of relief.
Hours ago, she left with Lonefire to find her true self and in reality, she did. Jes found her real family and it brought everyone closer together, especially Gus and her.
“Dear, we better get going. Remember I still have Lonefire in the WaveRider and who knows what kind of trouble he’s doing.” Gus says, waking Jes up from her daydreaming. She nods and gets up from his lap. Gus gets up and puts his arm around Jes and they walk back to the ship. Sure enough, as soon as they walked up the ramp, they can hear the yells of Lonefire coming from the holding cell. “We’ll leave him down there, Jes. Let’s head to the cockpit for some peace and quiet.” Gus says, leading her in the direction. “Sure thing babe.” Jes says, smiling at him as they walk towards the front of the ship.
“M’lady, I know you can hear me. You have to set me free. Search your feelings and you will see there’s more to you and I than what was revealed to.” Jes wakes up startled and looks around. Gus turns around and looks at Jes, concerned. “Babe, what’s wrong? Are you still hurting from the fight?” Jes rubs her head and tries to figure out how Lonefire spoke to her through the Force.
She looks back at Gus and shakes her head. “No I’m fine dear. I think I’m still getting over what happened to me. Just a bad dream I had.” Gus, still looking concerned for her, just nods and leans over giving her a kiss. “Once we’re back on Dantoonie, no more bad dreams for you dear. I’ll make sure of that.” He holds her hand and gives her his wicked combo. Jes smiles, feeling better after seeing that combo and leans back on the chair, but Lonefire’s voice keeps on coming back.
Turning around so not to worry Gus more, Jes looks out into the darkness of space and starts to worry if by some crazy power, Lonefire still has a hold on her and making her go crazy. “He did say he would have me one way or another. What if this is the other.” Jes whispers to herself.
Even though he was piloting the WaveRider, Augustus Starwarrior had other things on his mind. He was the best pilot in the Outer Rim and can do 20 things at the same time during his flights. Never once did he put his precious ship on autopilot unless it was absolutely necessary to do so. Through their bond, which was considerably stronger than before (Gus had to remember to ask Jes about that later), he knows something is wrong but being the nice guy that he is, Gus decided not to push the subject just yet.
Instead, he sent her comforting thoughts through the Force to help her relax. Once he saw her breathing slowly, as if she was napping again, Gus gets up and puts his jacket over her. Kissing her on her head, he walks out of the cockpit and down to the holding cell—and Lonefire.
“What the hell did you do to her? TELL ME!” Gus demands as he stands in front of Lonefire. Smirking, Lonefire sits down and crosses his arms. “Why what can I do to your precious Jes from in here? All I offered her was a chance to truly find herself in that cave.” Gus, wanting so much as to pull out his blaster and end it right there, fights the urge. Lonefire senses Gus’s conflict continues to smirk and knows it would be a matter of time.
“She is special to you, isn’t she Augustus? Oh I remember when I was like you. So in love with a woman and doing everything I can to protect her. Love will drive you mad Augustus. It will lead you down a path that you can never get out of and it will be because of dear Jes.” Hearing Lonefire talk about Jes makes Gus’s blood rise and his anger starts to grow.
Without realizing it, as if some dark force was controlling him, Gus quickly pulls out his blaster and directly points it at Lonefire. “Good, good. It looks like you’re already under her spell.” Lonefire laughs. “Now the question is, do you have what it takes to kill me Augustus? What will HiVolt say about this when he finds out? Yes everyone will know what you did, including Jes who I can tell you snuck away to have this little conversation with me.”
Gus, staring at Lonefire, thinks about what he just said. Yes it would protect Jes and everyone else from Lonefire’s grasp but this was not the way HiVolt trained him to be. He could hear HiVolt’s voice in his mind and Jes’s disappointment in him. As much as Augustus Starwarrior hate to admit it, Lonefire was right. He puts down the blaster and looks into Lonefire’s eyes. “You may have won Lonefire, but stay away from Jes. If I find out you come anywhere near her again, I won’t think twice about killing you.”
Gus turns around and heads back upstairs. Lonefire smirks and says to himself, “Don’t worry Augustus. She’ll be coming to me again soon.”
